Week Three - waiting for parts....

December 29, 2010 - Received the order today from Apple Hydraulics with rebuilt Swivel axles and lower control arms.  They look great. We will start putting them on tomorrow.

December 30 -  Today we attached the new swivel axles to the new lower control arms.

We had to transfer the steering arms from the old swivel axles, but that gave us a chance to clean them up and paint them.

Then we attached the new passenger side lower control arm/swivel axle assembly to the car's frame.

It took some time getting it all lined up and bolted into place, but now we know what we are doing, so the driver's side should go into place a little easier!

I also cleaned and painted the brake dust shields and sway bar, and put another coat of paint on the pedal box and cover.

I picked up an original 1971 Midget Sales Brochure on ebay.  You can click on any photo to see a larger version or click here to download a PDF version of the entire brochure.

Sales brochures are helpful in determining originality.  For example, I can tell from the brochure that the current color of the car was not original, as it was not offered.  Also, the wheels were repainted, incorrectly.   Finally, it looks like the rear bumper may not be original.  More research will have to be done to confirm these details.
