March 2-3

The carburetor rebuild kit arrived and we started working on them.

The original HS2 carburetors were pretty dirty and there were lots of challenges working with the new rebuild kit.

It took two days and two trips to the auto parts store for fittings, but we finally got them clean, rebuilt and mounted them on the car.

They look nice with the new steel braided fuel lines against the freshly painted black heat shield.

Then we installed the new distributor cap and wires, but still no spark to the plugs.
March 8 - Today we removed the distributor and bench tested it.  The problem was that the low tension wire was shorting out against the spring in the points. The insulated spacer was incorrectly installed.  After taking it apart, we were able to get the coil to fire.

A quick trip to the gas station, and we were ready to fire it up.  Uh oh...the gas pipe to the tank is really rusty inside, so we removed it and hit it with a wire brush to clean it out.  Then it was ready to start.

It started!

The engine sounds good.  We still need to adjust the timing, valves and carburetors.

We did encounter a problem.  The clutch is stuck from sitting so long.  The disc is probably rusted to the pressure plate or flywheel.  Hopefully we can free it, or else....time to pull the engine and transmission.....

On to April
